PhD student position on the microbial ecology of bioelectrodes at Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenburg, Sweden)


In this PhD project, you will focus on microbial communities that oxidize organic compounds and generate electrical current at bioanodes. You will investigate how the microbial communities assemble and develop over time, and how various factors affect their composition and performance. You will build, operate and analyze the performance of bioelectrochemical systems and you will use various molecular tools and computational methods to study the microbial communities.
The majority of your working time is devoted to your own research studies. As a PhD student you are expected to develop your own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in written form. In addition, the position may include up to 20% departmental work, mostly teaching duties in the Master program ”Infrastructure and Environmental Engineering” and the undergraduate program in Civil Engineering.

The employment is expected begin in the spring of 2019 and is limited to four years plus the time spent on departmental work (a maximum of five years in total).
